Kamuela Philharmonic Announces Eighth Season 2011-2012
Dear friends of the Kamuela Philharmonic:
Welcome to the eighth exciting season of great music brought to you by the Kamuela Philharmonic! Dr. Madeline Schatz, our founder and Artistic Director, has planned a series of delightful musical treats that are sure to please you, our Big Island audience.
Our season will begin on Sunday, October 16 with an all-Mozart concert featuring Basil Reeve, principal oboist of the Minnesota Orchestra, as soloist in the Oboe Concerto in C, K.314. The Philharmonic will perform the Symphony No. 1, written when Mozart was just eight years old, and Symphony No. 35 (Haffner).
On Sunday, January 15, in addition to Brahms’ Symphony No.1, you’ll hear the three winners of our first annual Concerto Competition for student musicians age 18 and under, each playing a movement of their concerto. This year’s competition, which will take place in November, will be for string instrumentalists. If you know of young musicians who might wish to participate, information and an application to participate in the competition can be found on our website: http://www.kamuelaphil.com.
Our Spring concert will be on Sunday, April 1, and we’ve planned a program fitting for that auspicious date. You’ll be treated to a concert featuring the works of PDQ Bach, which should leave you smiling, if not laughing.
As usual, our regular season concerts are free, but because seating in the Kahilu Theatre is limited, you should plan to arrive no later than 3:15 pm for the 4:00 pm concerts.
Your donations to the Kamuela Philharmonic are most welcome and, because the Philharmonic is a charitable organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, may be tax deductible. Donations can be made by check mailed to the Kamuela Philharmonic at PO Box 5550, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745, or via PayPal on our website.
